Hounslow Parent Carers Forum is a group of Hounslow-based parents or carers of children/young people (aged 0 to 25 years) with disabilities or special educational needs and local professionals.
The Forum meets monthly to discuss real issues that affect families such as health, education and employment. Professionals are there to share their current plans and to hear what parents have to say. It is also a place to share information parent to parent and to ask questions.
The forum is led by Aldona Zywicka-Thornton & Joy Wilson who are both parent/carers and we are delighted that Jacqui McEneaney is Treasurer for the Forum. As well as other parent carers there is regular attendance from the Short Breaks team. Other agencies are invited to speak about specific topics, such as travel assistance and new arrangements in the NHS.
The meeting starts at 10.15 - 12.30 and has minutes and an agenda to record parents ideas and concerns. These are used to inform policy making within Hounslow.
We also have a coffee morning every other month in Hounslow Town Centre, and alternate months at other venues across the borough.
We also run a support group for parents/carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities who are Home Educated for whatever reason or whose parents are just thinking about it.This is for any borough.
And lastly but by no means leastly we have started a mens group called 'Men Too', to help support men, be it dads, grandads, uncles, brothers etc.
